Best dogs for people with allergies

If you love dogs but hate allergies, you may be tempted to spring for a hypoallergenic pet. However, the only pets proven to be hypoallergenic have scaly skin, just like iguanas or snakes. So if you want furry pet, below is a short list of a few that are touted to be better for people with allergies but are not 100% proven.

You should also remember that sometimes it may appear that a person is allergic to a dog, when it is not the dog they are actually allergic to, but what the dog is exposed to. For example a man who is allergic to dust mites may have a reaction when he is around a dog who sleeps in a dog bed that is dust mite infested. The dust mite feces gets onto the dog's coat and the dog carries it to the that man causing allergic reaction.

Our beds and pillows for dogs are an effecctive protection against allergies

You may think that best dog for people with allergies will be a short-haired dog? No! You’ll find short and long-haired breeds that do well with people with allergies.

It's because as we mention earlier it’s not the dog’s hair per se that causes allergies but it’s the saliva, skin, or other proteins. Allergens can latch on to the hair, so less shedding in general—rather than the length of the hair may be helpful.

Bedlington Terrier

Bedlington terriers have curly, wooly coats with an extra mop on the top of the head, and weigh 17 to 23 pounds.

Chinese Crested
This bred has little to no hair, which again can lower but not eliminate allergens in the home. Chinese crested dogs comes in two versions—hairless, which have hair on the head, feet, and tail and powderpuff, which have a soft coat over the entire body. These dogs weigh about 10–13 pounds.

Kerry Blue Terrier
These bred have a soft, dense coat and weigh 33 to 40 pounds. Originally bred as hunters, they may not do well in households with cats or other small pets,

Labradoodle
Labradoodles are a mix of a poodle and Labrador retriever. The original intent was to produce a seeing-eye dog that was also hypoallergenic.

How to really clean a dog

Do you know what a stinky dog, an itchy dog and a muddy dog all have in common?
The fact that they need to be washed! Time to round up the dog shampoo, towels, comb and brush and clean your dog really good - here are some tips how to do it properly.

When we talk about getting a dog clean, we think about 3 things: that he smell clean, that his fur look clean and he appear to be well kept. As you may guess, this is harder to achieve with some breeds than others.

Firtst o all - brushing
Brushing is any dog owner's first line of defense in the battle to keep a dog clean. You should brush your dog at least once a week or few times a week if your dog belongs to long-coated breed.
Brushing removes loose fur, prevents matting, gets rid of existing mats, and helps eliminate dirt. And remember that brushing is essential before giving your dog a bath.

Next - ear cleaning
Dirty ears can cause odors and lead to infections. Some owners prefer to clean out a dog's ears prior to a full bath, but you can always take care of this task after bathing.

Hoolywood smile or tooth brushing
You can choose to use doggie toothpaste or simply use water. Start at the back teeth and gently work the brush against the teeth in a circular motion, taking care to clean the gum line especially well.

Bathing
As you know bathing is the single most important step in cleaning your dog. It's honestly better to forego the tub full of suds in favor of a sprayer set up. It will be easier to see if you're really getting your dog clean when he's not submerged.

Time for drying
Many people prefer to skip the drying, however, blow drying does give the coat a finished look, and is required for long coats in order to keep your dog from becoming chilled. It also makes it easier to brush out mats.

Pediciure / maniciure or just nail clipping
Once your dog is clean and dry, it's time to carry out any clipping he might need.
First, examine your dog's nails to see if they need to be trimmed. Only trim the nails up to the pink just barely visible through the nail. If you go any further the nails will bleed.

Last but not least - fur trimming
Some extra trimming may be necessary to help your dog stay clean. Check his pads to determine if the hair between them needs to be trimmed a bit. Excessive pad hair can become matted and also trap debris.

Add new activities to your dog’s daily routine

Your dog should never feel bored. Providing dog with mental stimulation, as well as physical and social interactions are critical factors for maintaining his good health. Enrichment activities can help relieve a dog’s boredom and stress. Usually, the best types of activities involve interaction with people or other dogs.

I'm soo bored

Below, are some enrichment activities that will help to keep your dog busy, so he is less likely to do things you don't want him to do.

Earn your meal
Food puzzle toys are sturdy containers, usually made of hard rubber or plastic, which hold food or treats inside but don’t give dogs easy access to the food. They usually have holes on each end or on the sides, and dogs must work by shaking, pawing, rolling, nibbling or licking the toy to get the food to come out. Food puzzle toys require time, patience and problem solving – all skills that are good for your dog and will help him enjoy quiet time alone. Puzzle toys also encourage chewing and licking, which can have a calming effect on dogs.

Chew time
All dogs need to chew and will spend hours doing it to keep their jaws strong and their teeth clean. They also chew for fun, for stimulation, and to relieve anxiety. Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog, it’s important to provide a variety of appropriate and attractive chew toys, like hard rubber toys.

Play a game of - Find It
Giving your dog a chance to use his powerful nose can really wear him out! It’s easy to teach your dog to find hidden treats. Try placing treats behind the legs of furniture, partially in view. After you’ve hidden the treats, go get your dog and say “Find it!” right before letting him into the room. Encourage him to look around for the treats. As your dog becomes better and better at finding the treats, you can hide them in more difficult places, like behind pillows or underneath objects.

Chase
Some dogs love to chase things, but have no interest in bringing this itmes back to people. There is a way to make it work - the chase game. Try tying one of your dog’s favorite toys to the end of a sturdy rope. You can attach the other end of the rope to a stick. Use the stick to drag the toy around on the ground. Many dogs find this game exciting and will chase the fast-moving toy until they’re exhausted. But remember to let your dog catch it at times! There is no fun if he can't catch it from times to times.

Time for rest
After so many activities during a day your dog will be extremely happy and dead tired. He will gladly rest in his comfy bed or on pillow.

Do you love dogs more then you love other peopole?

The old saying states that dogs are man’s best friends. And sometimes we love our furry friends more than other people. But how to be sure who we love more? Here are some examples.

First - you’d cuddle your dog over anyone else any day. Dogs bodies make the best pillows you can find.

Cuddle with your dog

When you meet a new baby, you smile and say “aw,” but when you meet a new puppy, you squeal, jump up and spew out unintelligible words of affection. Deep down you know that nothing is cuter than a baby dog.

Another example. If your dog doesn’t like the date you brought home, you refuse to ask them on a second date. Dogs have a great sense for judging character - they can't be wrong.

You would never watch someone sleep because it's creepy but you could spend hours watching your dog sleep. Their little smushy faces are just so cute.

Your dog’s toys, accessories, bed and clothes are probably worth more than your own wardrobe. That’s not even factoring the amount of money you’ve spent on others thing for your puppy.

You need a facebook reminder for your friends’ birthdays, but you very well remember your dog day or birthday? It's a sign who is more important for you.

Ways to Help an Arthritic Dog

Sometimes it happens. The easy run becomes a stiff walk. The jump to a favorite chair is no longer possible. Lying down is accompanied by a deep groan. As our dogs age, things that were once second nature become an effort. Today, thanks to advances in veterinary medicine and companion animal care, many dogs are living much much longer. On the downside, that longevity also increases the odds that they’ll suffer from some form of degenerative joint disease (DJD), or osteoarthritis. There are several types of canine arthritis and we will discuss the method to fight with them.

First, and the most obvious is to take your dog in for regular checkups so that your veterinarian can monitor your pet’s arthritis and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

Another advice is to keep your dog slim. This can help by decreasing the load on his joints. You should feed your dog the right amount of high-quality food.

Next - controlled exercise. Make sure you carefully monitor your dog while he plays, walks, or runs. If possible, find a soft surface for activity. As much as possible, keep your dog warm and dry, since cold and damp conditions can aggravate arthritis.

Consider investing in a good dog bed. The ones with VISCO - an orthopaedic foam mat that is dedicated to dogs with arthritis and health problems referring to bones and joints - is a must. The mat’s features will allow your dog to move without any pain and throughout the day.

Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation to a professional animal massage therapist, as massage can increase your dog’s flexibility, circulation, and sense of well-being.

Last but not least - acupuncture.  You may think that is just for people, but is not. This painless technique has shown some success in animals suffering from arthritis.
